Student Teacher to do 210 hours community service for fondling sister

The 25-year-old student teacher who was convicted of fondling his blood sister aged 12 shall perform 210 hours of community service as a punishment for his indecent act.
The student teacher, who cannot be named to protect the minor, had initially been slapped with a 10-month jail term before the court set aside four months for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining six months were suspended on condition that he works for no pay at a Mission Hospital. He had readily pleaded guilty to the charges of indecent assault and he was convicted on his own plea.
State prosecutor, Francisca Mukumbira had strongly spoken against the student teacher's conduct, arguing that the court had to impose a stiffer sentence.
A fine or community service will not meet the justice of the offence. It should also be noted that the accused committed the offence a week after the death of their father and the complainant (girl) is traumatised for the rest of her life because of the indecent act," submitted prosecutor Mukumbiri.
