The Matabeleland North government offices are finally expected to move to the provincial capital of Lupane by August this year.

The offices are currently located at Mhlahlandlela Complex in Bulawayo in what has been described as having a negative impact on the development of the province as the decision makers will be far away from the community they serve.

Speaking on the sidelines of a tour of various government projects in Lupane district, the Minister of State for Matabeleland North province Richard Moyo revealed that the time had come for all operations to move to the provincial capital.

He noted that the tour of facilities was meant to determine the progress as the failure to finish these projects had hindered the intended move.

Sites visited included a water reservoir that is expected to address the water challenges currently experienced in the area which at completion is expected to be able to supply the precious liquid for five continuous days even during a power cut.

Other visited sites included the official residence for the provincial minister of state that is set for completion in three months time, the civil servants houses where 19 of them are at various stages of construction with a target of a June completion.

The provincial hospital which has been lying incomplete for the last decade was also visited where it was noted that treasury had been releasing funds every year although no disbursement was taking place.

The government complex is now at its final stages of construction with works mainly now on electrifying the buildings while a water works plant is also being constructed.
