A Belvedere Junior School teacher allegedly raped a Grade Four pupil in his office.
The 32-year-old teacher, who is the school's sports director, is alleged to have taken the nine-year-old girl from the school grounds before raping her in the office.
He is now facing a rape charge and was not formally charged when he appeared before regional magistrate Mrs Sandra Mupindu yesterday.
He was remanded in custody to May 31 and the magistrate advised him to apply for bail at the High Court due to the gravity of the offence.
According to the State papers, the accused is the girl's physical training teacher.
Prosecutor Mrs Tinashe Makiya alleges that on May 16 this year at around 2pm the teacher approached the girl who was playing in the school grounds.
It is alleged he took the girl to his office where he raped her once. He released the girl when she threatened to report him to the headmaster.
The matter came to light when the girl's father received an anonymous call from a person who advised him that his child had been raped. The girl's parents then quizzed her and she later opened up and told them about the sexual abuse.
A police report was made leading to the teacher's arrest.
