President Emmerson Mnangagwa says it is the duty of every Zimbabwean to protect, utilise and develop the country's resources in a sustainable manner.
Speaking during a National Clean-up Day held at Lake Chivero in Norton today, the President said working in a clean health environment is an attitude that everyone should live with.
He said the government of the Second Republic values the upkeep of every environment and surroundings, hence the resolve to come up with a monthly national clean-up programme.
Mnangagwa urged vendors and business operators to discharge litter at designated sites saying if the habit becomes a culture, it will also help control disease outbreaks.
He also warned industrialists and other stakeholders against discharging effluent into water bodies, saying the habit has a negative impact on aqua life.
The President also urged the media to promote cleanliness by giving prominence to environmental issues as they to do to politics.
This month's clean-up campaign coincided with the Africa Environment Day that was designated by the African Union to address challenges faced in African environments.
