Thousands of charismatic Emmanuel Makandiwa's United Families International Church members are this afternoon (Monday) flocking to Bulawayo's Amphitheatre to bid farewell to their late pastor.
The pastor, identified as Albert Mpofu and said to be very close to Makandiwa died in a car crush in Zvishavane on Saturday.
The crush that shocked Makandiwa's followers occurred at Mandamabwe Growth point along the Masvingo-Zvishavane Road.
A church member claimed Mpofu was speeding as his classy E230 blue Mercedes Benz burst a front tire before veering off the road and hit a tree.
"We hear that he (Mpofu) was speeding and far ahead of his escort…he could have survived had he not been far off from other cars," said a church member.
A church service will be held at 2pm and popular Makandiwa is expected to address mourners.
