Vice President Kembo Mohadi has been granted a divorce from Tambudzani Muleya, his wife of 38 years.

The 70-year-old Mohadi asked the High Court to dissolve his marriage in September 2017, saying in court papers that "the marriage developed some irreconcilable differences which led to the separation of the parties some 19 years ago and as such, there are no prospects of restoration of a normal marriage."

The Vice President's lawyer Norman Mugiya confirmed that the acrimonious divorce had been granted at the Harare High Court, but details of the settlement had been sealed.

Even before the divorce was granted, Mohadi had moved in with Juliet Mutavhatsindi, his new wife.

In a lawsuit yet to be finalised, Tambudzani is claiming $1,5 million adultery damages from Mutavhatsindi.

Mutavhatsindi has filed her opposition, stating that she only got into a relationship with Mohadi in March 2018 after the marriage between Mohadi and Tambudzaniu "had irretrievably broken down and the two had not been staying together and sharing bed for a long time."

"The defendant did not inflict any contumelia upon the person of the plaintiff as alleged. The defendant denies alienating Kembo Mohadi's affection for the plaintiff in any way and puts the plaintiff to the strict proof thereof," Mutavhatsindi's lawyers said in reply.
