Sangoma rapes patient during an evil spirits cleansing ceremony

A Chipinge traditional healer (30) allegedly raped his patient (20) in a maize field claiming to be cleansing her of evil spirits.

Police confirmed the incident which occurred at Vanceal Farm in Chief Mutema's area. The deputy acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Muzondiwa Clean, said the woman and her aunt (27) consulted a traditional healer, Pingurai Mapotsi Nyamunda over problems affecting them. It is alleged that Pingurai led the woman to a secluded place in a maize field, leaving the aunt at home.

"Pingurai advised her that she needed cleansing which he said required her to strip naked," sgt Clean said.

He also said the woman removed all her clothes, and remained with her natural, 'birthday suit'. Pingurai proceeded to rape her on the pretext that he was performing a cleansing ritual on her.

Sgt Clean urged members of the public to be wary of Bogus traditional healers and false prophets.
