Mandiwanzira seeks ConCourt relief

Former cabinet minister Supa Mandiwanzira has applied for referral of Section 174 (1) a and b of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9.23 which speaks to criminal abuse of office as a public officer.
Mandiwanzira argues that the section is too broad and does not define the particular conduct that qualifies to be regarded as criminal abuse.

He argues that he is being persecuted for having done his job as minister by saving public funds through contracting Megawatt to do consultancy work free of charge which resulted in the recovery of US$30 million that had been lost.
Mandiwanzira said the Megawatt deal was above board and it had the involvement of the cabinet and his principals the president and the vice president who gave him special instructions which were documented but would need cabinet's concurrence to be released.
Meanwhile, Harare West legislator Joana Mamombe's application for refusal of placement on remand on the basis of unlawful arrest and over-detention has been thrown out by Harare Magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa for lack of merit.
Mamombe was arguing that she was not informed of her charges when arrested in Nyanga.
She was also challenging the fact that allegations do not disclose an offence and that she was brought to court after the lapse of the required 48 hours.
