I stole to raise money for my kids school fees man tells court

A caring Budiriro father in Harare who wanted his children to gain education but had for money stole asbestos worth $812 to pay school fees.

However, Richard Muzondiwa is now in jail after being convicted by Mbare magistrate Vicky Mashamba.

Muzondiwa was handed a 21 month jail term of which six where suspended for five years. Three additional months were also set aside on condition that he pays back the value of his loot before September 28.

"I wanted to pay school fees for my children who had been chased from school Your Worship," he pleaded.

The court heard that on May 29, Muzondiwa broke into a Glen View house belonging to Christopher Marinjengwa.

Muzondiwa made off with 25 sheets of asbestos and hid the loot in the same township.

He was arrested after Murinjengwa had filed a theft report to the police.
