The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morban Tsvangirai has upped its general elections preparations with the selection of parliamentary candidates set to begin soon to match Zanu-PF's calls for early polls.
MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora advised that the party's election directorate met last Friday and resolved to conduct primary elections soon.
"The election directorate met last week and we looked at preparations for elections."
"We agreed on the issue of voter registration as well as mobilisation of voters and candidates selection.
"We are working on the assumption that the police and army will not protect the people, so we are planning with that in mind," Mwonzora said.
Mwonzora said his party has not as yet set the date for primary elections.
"We are treating 2012 as election preparations year. Whether elections come in 2012 or 2013 doesnt matter. We are targeting at least 70% of the total votes cast."
