THE FAMILY of a man, who was previously reported to have died from an alcohol binge, is seeking justice, as it has emerged that he could have been murdered under unclear circumstances.
Police have since launched an investigation into the case, where they say Zulu Maseko was allegedly killed in cold blood.
In a statement, Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said Maseko was found dead and bleeding from the nose.
"An ambulance was summoned and the crew pronounced him dead upon arrival at the scene. The body was taken to Doves Funeral parlour and that is where morgue attendants discovered that the body had stab wounds, raising suspicions of foul play. The body was then transferred to UBH for a post-mortem and investigations are still in progress," she said.
A brother to the deceased, in an interview alleged that a relative may have been involved in the murder as well as a police officer.
"This was a murder and not a sudden death as reported. We are not happy as a family and want justice to be served. This is a very sensitive issue as there are very close family people involved in the investigations," said a relative.
About a fortnight ago it was reported that police were investigating a case of sudden death where Maseko is reported to have been found dead following a beer binge with friends in North End suburb.
Maseko (42) who resided at Matopo Research Station in Matobo was allegedly last seen drinking beer throughout the day in North End suburb with Melani Moyo, Gugulethu Maseko and Isaac Gonyora. It is alleged that he collapsed and died at around 5am the following day. Police have since appealed to anyone who may have information on what happened to the deceased to contact their nearest police station.
