High Court Judge, Justice Andrew Mutema has granted an application by suspended Mutare Mayor, Brain James, to have disciplinary proceedings against him by a committee set up by Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo stopped.

Mayor James is the MDC Manicaland provincial treasurer and was suspended by Chombo on 27 January 2012 on allegations of misconduct.

For five months, Mayor James had not been served with the actual charges of misconduct until last week.

The High Court ruling means that the disciplinary hearing has been suspended till the finalisation of the court challenge against his suspension.

Chombo, has for years been meddling in the affairs of the MDC-led councils across the country by way of appointing highly paid commissions to investigate purported allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
