Mugabe leaves for SADC Summit

President Robert Mugabe has left the country for Luanda, Angola to attend two extra-ordinary SADC summits.

On Thursday, leaders of the SADC Troika meet to discuss political developments in Madagascar and Zimbabwe before the beginning of the full Extra Ordinary Summit on Friday.

Principals in the Global Political Agreement (GPA), who include Mugabe, Mr Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Professor Welshman Ncube are expected to attend the SADC Troika meeting.

Sources close to the summit say the issue of elections in Zimbabwe will feature prominently at the summit.

The SADC Extra-Ordinary Troika will be chaired by South African President, Jacob Zuma, who will report the outcome to the full SADC Extra Ordinary Summit on Friday and a decision is expected to be taken.

MDC-T president, Morgan Tsivangirai, arrived Wednesday afternoon in Luanda to attend the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) from May 31 to June 1 in the Angolan capital.

Speaking to the press on arrival at Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, Tsivangirai highlighted the importance of the Luanda meeting, saying he will inform the session about the political situation in Zimbabwe.

The prime minister's delegation that was welcomed on arrival by the secretary of State of Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto, includes the Foreign minister, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.

The Minister of Regional Cooperation, Priscila Mushongo, has been in Luanda since Tuesday.
