A polygamous Mberengwa gold dealer courted trouble after he allegedly connived with two of his friends to steal more than US$9,600 at his homestead which he was not willing to share with his two wives.
Luck however ran out for the gold dealer, Experience Maphosa (29), after one of his partners-in-crime was immediately arrested soon after committing the offence. Maphosa and one of his accomplices, Mukasiri Mhuri (28) both of Village Seven in Mupfuma area under chief Bvute in Mberengwa, were last Friday arraigned before Zvishavane magistrate Mr Story Rushambwa facing robbery charges. Their co-accused Tazorodzwa Mawerewere is still at large.
Experience and Mukasiri pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded in custody to Thursday for trial. Mr William Manombe, for the State, said on 22 January this year, Experience left home for Zvishavane where he met his friends Mukasiri and Tazorodzwa. Experience allegedly tipped Mukasiri and Tazorodzwa that he had left US$9,670 cash in custody of his aunt Ms Sinotile Zhou (28), which he did not want to SHARE with his two wives Euphonia Matutu (28) and Tariro Masarira (30).
The prosecutor alleged that Experience asked Mukasiri and Tazorodzwa to pretend to be police officers on an investigation mission so that they would gain access into the bedroom where the money was kept. He said the trio also hatched a plan to the effect that they would conduct a search in all the houses at Maphosa's homestead. The court heard that Mukasiri and Tazorodzwa then approached Experience's two wives and identified themselves as police officers investigating a case in connection with illegal gold possession.
The two then went on to conduct a search in Ms Matutu's bedroom where they got away with US$9,670. The matter was reported to police leading to the arrest of Mukasiri who later revealed that he had hatched the plan together with Experience and Tazorodzwa.
