A Harare man took his own life by galloping a pesticide after suspecting that his wife was cheating on him. The incident occurred last week on Thursday when Dickson Mbewe of House No. 2506 Crowborough North is alleged to have stumbled upon a romantic text message that his wife had received from her dear boyfriend.

He eventually died at Harare Hospital on Monday. His wife was only identified as Mai Anna is said to have been involved in an adulterous affair with a panel beater from the same neighbourhood. Mai Anna could neither deny nor confirm whether her infidelity triggered her late husband's suicide.

"I cannot speak to you, I was ordered by my relatives not to say anything to you," she said.

Her workmates, vendors stationed along Bulawayo Road testified that INDEED Mai Anna was involved in an adulterous affair with a panel beater.

"We are positive that our colleague has been cheating on her husband, there is a man who is a panel beater just next to us who always picked her up with his car. These days we have not been talking to her to protect our images and not to be associated with someone who has loose morals," said one of her workmates.

Witnesses said it was around at 7am when Dickson drank the pesticide. Neighbours tried to give him milk to induce vomiting but he ram away before they finally caught up with him and took him to Harare hospital where he eventually breathes his last.

"Dickson caused a stir as the whole neighbourhood thronged the streets when we heard his wife and children screaming on top of their voices after he drank the poison. He ran away from the people who wanted to give him milk to save his life," narrated the witness.

When we attended the funeral service, a fifty-plus crowd of mourners barred the crew from entering the premises saying, "You guys are not welcome here. We don't want you to be part of the proceedings. We have enough problems that we are facing as a family so we don't want to expose them."

Residents said the spirit of suicide has engulfed the neighbourhood which has recorded at least FOUR cases of suicide within 30 days.
