8 positions of Judge of High Court of Zimbabwe

The Judicial Service Commission announces that 8 (eight) judge vacancies have arisen in the High Court.

In terms of section 180(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, members of the public are hereby invited to nominate suitably qualified persons to fill the above positions in the High Court.

QUALIFICATIONS OF JUDGES OF HIGH COURT

Section 179 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides that:
(1) A person is qualified for appointment as a judge of the High Court if he or she is at least forty years old and, in addition-(a) is or has been a judge of a court with unlimited jurisdiction in civil or criminal matters in a country in which the common law is Roman-Dutch or English and English is an officially recognised language; or (b) for at least seven years, whether continuously or not, he or she has been qualified to practise as a legal practitioner-(i) in Zimbabwe; or (ii) in a country in which the common law is Roman-Dutch or English and English is an officially recognised language; or (iii) if he or she is a Zimbabwean citizen, in a country in which the common law is English and English is an officially recognised language; and is currently so qualified to practise.

(2) To be appointed as a judge of High Court a person must be a fit and proper person to hold office as a judge.

Members of the public intending to nominate candidates can obtain nomination forms from:
i. The office of the Secretary, Judicial Service Commission, 2"d Floor, Causeway Building, Central Avenue, HARARE or ii. The office of Provincial Magistrate in charge of the Province at Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Bindura, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Gwanda, Marondera, Hwange and Gweru or iii. The website of the JSC www.jsc.org.zw where they can be downloaded.

All completed nomination forms, with the nominee's curriculum vitae attached, must be submitted to the office of the Secretary, Judicial Service Commission, 2nd Floor, Causeway Building, Central Avenue, HARARE or the office of any Provincial Magistrate in charge of a Province as specified in ii above by no later than close of business on 30 April
