Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga has called for unity of purpose saying it is everyone's role to assist Cyclone Idai victims.

While addressing residents gathered outside Chipinge District Hospital where he had visited Cyclone Idai patients, Vice President Chiwenga said
now is the time to work together as a nation.

The Vice President also castigated those politicking on the back of the tragic event saying in times like these Zimbabweans should be united for a common, thus to help those affected by the cyclone.

"We have come here together as political parties to sympathise with those affected by the cyclone but some are taking this disastrous event to criticise, grandstand and politic at the expense of the victims. This is not the time for party politics," he said.

The Vice President also cautioned against looting of relief goods saying the long arm of the law will surely catch up with those involved in this illegal practice.

"It is the highest level of cruelty and above all a criminal act to steal goods directed for victims," he said.

Earlier on, Chiwenga visited other affected areas in Chimanimani where he reiterated government's commitment towards repairing damaged infrastructure in the province.
