The South African government has announced that it has set up a task team to probe the socio-economic factors the fueling attacks on foreigners in South Africa.
In March xenophobic attacks were reported in KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalanga Province leaving some people dead with hundreds displaced after South Africa's President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa issued a strong warning against foreigners.
The intelligence Department has also revealed that it is investigating two Social Media messages that are circulating inciting xenophobic attacks.
Police Minister Bheki Cele briefed the media on Friday following a meeting between government and the African diplomatic corps.
The International Relations Department has promised to scale up its public awareness drive to educate South Africans about living in peace alongside other nationalities.
The attacks on foreigners has become a foreign policy during the campaign period for the May elections with contesting political parties pronouncing their position on foreigners in every rally.
The most affected persons in the recent attacks were Zimbabweans, Mozambican and Malawians.
