THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will today kick start a pilot programme to test the content of it Voter Education Guide in readiness for much awaited elections.

In a statement over the weekend , EC chief elections officer Lovemore Sekeramayi said the pilot projects would be centred on two provinces, Matabeleland South and Manicaland.

"From Monday 4 June (today) to Friday 8 June, the commission will be pilot testing the voter education guide to assess its content, sustainability and readability in two provinces, namely, Manicaland and Matabeleland South, targeting both urban and rural informants in each province," he said.

"In addition, political parties and civil society groups that were engaged in the technical production of the VEG will be targeted as other pilot testing groups."

Sekeramayi urged people of voting age to register as voters.

"The public is also urged to facilitate the updating of the voters' roll by registering deaths."

President Mugabe is pushing for election this year to end a coalition government with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai, 60, and Mugabe, 88, formed a coalition government in February2009 after a disputed presidential poll run-off in June 2008.

The two leaders have been haggling over when new elections can be held.
