LOCALS in Marange and Chimanimani are up in arms with government over its deployment of State agents manning diamond fields as reports of abuses continue.
Headman Ngorima recently told a Stakeholder Community Convention on Natural Resources hosted by Centre for Research and Development in Nyanyadzi it was a new phenomenon to see State security agents working as mine security, hence government should be held accountable for their actions.
"All along private companies would employ their own security... but now we see and hear it's the army and police, so if there are any rights violations then government must be held accountable. We should sue government for any abuses we suffer at their hands," said Ngorima.
Amalgamated Chiadzwa Development Community Trust leader Jey Kasakara told the meeting the social and psychological trauma the communities had endured under police and military curfews in the areas had not been properly documented.
