UK supports Mnangagwa's economic, political reforms

Constitutional reforms, land policy and currency issues came under the spotlight when United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Melanie Robinson paid a courtesy call on the Zanu PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu this Tuesday at the party's headquarters, in Harare.
Relations between Zimbabwe and the UK went sour in 2000 when the government of Zimbabwe embarked on the land reform programme which saw the country being removed from the commonwealth group.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ambassador Robinson said the meeting was meant to express their support to President Emmerson Mnangagwa's economic and political reforms process and to find ways of improving relations between the two countries.
"We had a good opportunity to discuss Zimbabwe and UK relations and the more Zimbabwe is able to reform the more UK is going to re-engage," said Ambassador Robinson.
Dr Mpofu said the British envoy is keen to see Zimbabwe returning to the commonwealth.
"Our relations with the UK are getting better since the Cyclone Idai natural disaster, where Zimbabwe was assisted by the royal family," said Dr Mpofu.
The meeting was also attended by Zanu PF Secretary for Production and Labour, Josiah Hungwe, Secretary for Health, Cleveria Chizema and Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, among other party members.
