UNICEF Zimbabwe has revealed that Dzingire Primary School in Chimanimani lost 50 students, their headmaster and 3 teachers to Cyclone Idai which struck Manicaland region in March.
The organisation said it is supporting the remaining pupils with counseling.
"Psychosocial and trauma support is critical on the long road to recovery. Students are participating in psychosocial activities to help build resilience to move past the tragedy." UNICEF said in a statement.
The devastating Cyclone Idai reportedly washed away schools and supplies in Chimanimani and Chipinge. UNICEF is also providing support to Kwirire Primary School in Chimanimani for the continued learning for over 1,000 children.
UNICEF Representative in Zimbabwe Laylee Moshiri said, "Over 129,000 children were affected by Cyclone Idai and are in urgent need of help. The gravity of the crisis is becoming clearer and its implications for women and children are huge."
