A Hatfield woman alleged that her husband keeps a snake for ritual purposes. Leanly Kachuru made the stunning allegation at the Harare Civil Court where she was seeking a protection order against her husband Jefferey Bita.
She said Jefferey abuses her and is being influenced by his superstitious parents to dump her.
"He is being influenced by his parents who do not like me and they want him to marry another woman and they have gone to the extremes of taking my clothes to traditional healers to harm me hence I am seeking a protection order against him. He poisons my food and I am no longer eating food from my house. He takes my daughter's panties to sangomas," said Leanly.
When asked to explain the snake allegations, Leanly said: "There is a bushy area at our house and he does not want anyone to cut the grass there because there is a big snake which stays there. The snake belongs to him."
The couple has been married for 32 years and have six children together. Jefferrey denied the allegations saying that he is a God fearing man and will never visit a sangoma.
"I an a Christian and I do not believe in traditional healers. She goes to different churches and every time she will be at the prophet's shrine that's where she gets those funny ideas and false prophecies," he said.
Magistrate Milton Serima who presided over the case granted a reciprocal order and tols the two to observe peace towards each other.
