Chamisa brushes off Khupe dialogue bait

Following the High Court ruling on Wednesday this week which nullified the opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa as the legitimate President among other party processes post 2014 congress, the development has seen a splinter group leader Dr Thokozani Khupe pleading for a dialogue to chart a new direction for the opposition, however, the Nelson Chamisa led MDC has dismissed the calls.
The High Court last week issued the ruling that could potentially break the mainstream MDC and further ruin Chamisa's hopes of ever ruling Zimbabwe.
Following the ruling that restored the leadership of MDC in the hands of Khupe, the only elected of the three MDC VPs, two of whom were appointed in 2016, the ex-deputy prime minister took the moment to urge her erstwhile allies to swallow their pride and close ranks with her.
Briefing the press in the capital today, Khupe appreciated the High court ruling saying it gives her a huge responsibility as it remains to be seen what would her next step in leading the party to an elective congress using 2014 structures as ordered by the court.
Khupe said it is however incumbent to all parties mentioned in the court ruling to put all heads on the deck for the purposes of mapping the way forward.
But this has been rubbished by the MDC, whose spokesperson Jacob Zumba said was a remote possibility.
"She is having dialogue with (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF and that's the dialogue she should conclude," Mafume told NewZimbabwe.com Monday.
"There is no dialogue that we are going to have with Khupe. There is no dialogue that is necessary. She runs her own party, we run our own party and she must stick to it."
Meanwhile, party insiders have raised fingers at the embattled secretary General Douglas Mwonzora who they suspect is behind the court ruling after his plans to contest party presidency went up in smoke receiving only one nomination to retain his current position.
