Vimbai Java, daughter to late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Glen View South MP, was admitted at Kwekwe Hospital late Monday, after the car in which she and three other party officials were traveling in, was involved in a head-on-collision in the Midlands town.
Paul Rukanda, her campaign manager and organising secretary for her constituency, and Tafadzwa Munzwa, her late mother's cousin, were trapped in their vehicle for over an hour before emergency services and police arrived. They died from their injuries, party officials said.
Not much is known about the condition of the occupants of a second vehicle involved in the crash, and what may have caused the head-on collision.
Sources close to the MDC early Tuesday morning described Java's condition as "bad" and dethroned MDC leader Nelson Chamisa had visited the injured in hospital.
MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume confirmed the accident.
