Revival bus crew arrested in Beitbridge over 900 twists of mbanje

Zimbabwe Republic Police have reported that they have arrested a Revival bus crew who were travelling from South Africa to Bulawayo after a contraband of dagga was discovered in the luggage compartment of the bus.

The incident occurred at the Beitbridge Border Post.

ZRP said when the bus was searched as per routine and a blue 25 litre container with 936 twists of dagga and 4 paper bags of loose dagga was discovered.

Police have urged transport operators or bus crews not to work in cahoots with criminals.

In April two Harare men were on Monday sentenced to eight years in jail each for possessing 30 bags of mbanje weighing 710kg, with a street value of $51 000.

Harare magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa initially slapped the pair Alphonse Mushanawani and Brighton Dinda (both 28) with 10-year jail sentences each before conditionally suspending two years.
