President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government has allocated US$ 17million to the Grain Marketing Board for the implementation of the People's shop concept ZANU PF Youth leader Lewis Matutu has revealed.

Writing on microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday evening Matutu said, "When I spoke about people's shops people of small minds thought that the government was being too ambitious President Mnangagwa is making it real. 17 million allocated to GMB to run People's Shops."

Matutu was the first person to announce in January that the People's shops were coming.

"Young people will be running the shops for the masses of Zimbabwe. Retail outlets that provide basic commodities at recommended prices for the public." He said in January. "The shops will sell basic goods at reasonable prices nothing is for free."

When told that the People's shops that idea failed and it cannot apply in Zimbabwe. And that it is  a communist idea which was proposed during 2008 If it's done today it means someone wants to benefit corruptly from it Matutu responded, "Do your research properly, majority of countries who applied austerity measures to economic development had people's shops."
