AN HIV positive man from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has allegedly committed suicide.

Baldwin Mthunzi (31) was found hanging in his room by his brother Terrence last Sunday at around 12 noon, a day after taking his own life.

Mthunzi had been living in South Africa and came home last December following the death of his father in September last year.

Mthunzi's uncle and family spokesperson Mr Jonathan Mthunzi said the family was shocked by Baldwin's death.

"I live in Filabusi and was called by family members who informed me of Baldwin's passing on. We are all shocked as a family because he showed no signs of wanting to end his own life. His parents both died last year and he decided to move back home after his father's death in a car accident," said Mr Mthunzi.

A source close to the family who declined to be named said Baldwin left a suicide note saying he was tired of living with HIV.

"When he came back home from South Africa he had already contracted the virus. He left a suicide note saying he was tired of living with HIV," said the source.

Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the death.

"I can confirm that we are investigating a case of sudden death where a 31-year-old man from Cowdray Park suburb allegedly hanged himself," she said.
