A cross-section of ordinary Zimbabweans continue to profess ignorance of the upcoming population census which is going to be held this August in a development that observers say might stall progress due to lack of full participation and cooperation.

Although the population census is earmarked to be carried out in August this year, most ordinary Zimbabweans seem to be unaware that such an important programme which involves their participation and cooperation is on the cards.

A cross section of ordinary Zimbabweans say they are not aware that a national census will be held this August.

"We are not even aware of a census, when is it being held?" asked one citizen.

Others said they heard about the upcoming census but have no details as to when it was going to be carried out.

"We just heard it from school children but we don't know where to get more information," another citizen said.

In 2010, ZIMSTAT carried out a preliminary census and most people were taken by surprise when they saw enumerators knocking on their doors as they were not aware of such a programme.

Analysts, feel that ZIMSTAT should involve the public and carry out awareness campaigns so as to obtain full participation from Zimbabweans.
