Instant justice turned fatal when three Harare family members allegedly assaulted and killed a man they suspect to have been trying to rob their house.

Urban grooves artiste Taurai Mandebvu, 27, his younger brother Sande Mandebvu, 21, and their father Golden Mandebvu, 60, were yesterday arraigned before the courts facing murder charges.

The court heard on June 9 this year the three family members saw a male adult in the company of two others breaking through their kitchen door.

The trio gathered around together and cornered the now deceased man while the other two escaped.

It is the state's case that the trio pounced on the dead man and started assaulting him all over his body several times with hose pipes, electrical codes and golf clubs.

According to state papers, the now deceased alleged robber sustained a deep cut on the head and abdomen and started bleeding profusely.

Prosecutor David Magwegwe told the court the alleged murderers left the man lying unconscious in their yard after which he died from the injuries sustained from the beating.

When the three family members went to Braeside Police Station to report that they had conducted a citizen arrest on the alleged robber they returned together with the police to find him dead on their lawn.

Magistrate Anita Tshuma remanded the trio who are being represented by Harrison Nkomo out of custody to June 22 on $100 bail each.

They were also ordered to report to Hatfield Police Station every Friday as part of their bail conditions.
