A 37-YEAR-OLD Bindura man, who set his rented house on fire after his wife was allegedly offered a lift by a council worker, was this week slapped with a three-year jail term by Bindura magistrate Christopher Maturure.
Brian John, of Section 6, Trojan Mine, will serve two years in prison after the magistrate suspended one year on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecuting, Tariro Janhi told the court that on February 27, John saw his wife, Memory Gondiwa, being dropped off at Tendai Hall by a Bindura council worker at around 2pm.
John charged towards the car and accused the driver Boyd Ngulo of having an adulterous affair with his wife, before assaulting him.
Ngulo sustained a swollen face and bruises all over the body.
John then went to Bindura Showground where Gondiwa is a vendor. He told her that he wanted to fix her by burning their rented house and dumping their children, a threat which he carried out.
Everything, including his landlord Elias Kimu's property, was reduced to ashes. John later sent Gondiwa a text message informing her about what he had done.
She filed a police report, leading to his husband's arrest.
