The Harare City Council was on Wednesday and Thursday closed Chancellor Road after a major pipe burst literally on President Robert Mugabe's doorstep.
The road passes through State House and it was rendered impassable by large quantities of water gushing out of the burst pipe.
The local authority's spokesperson Leslie Gwindi said the leak had been repaired and they had reopened the road.
The road is normally open to motorists between 6am and 6pm every day.
"The pipeline burst but it was fixed yesterday (Thursday) in the morning. It however took some time as they were still covering the ground they had dug. This is not news because our infrastructure is now old and this water pipe is just like any other pipe in Budiriro or Highfield, he said. We are currently working on fixing these old pipes," said Gwindi.
