Rapist father jailed for 18 years

Rapist father (35) from Epworth was slapped with 18 years in jail by a Harare magistrate yesterday for raping his 12 year old daughter.
The rapist father will however, spend the next effective 15 years behind bars after regional magistrate Estere Chivasa suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.
The man, who is said to have raped his daughter several times, told the court in his defence that his wife had influenced their daughter to lie against him.
Before passing sentence, Chivasa said: The accused it would appear was clearly sexually starved and I am convinced he vented out all his frustration on the child.
The child did not name anyone else as the culprit and at 12 years of age she cannot possibly consent to sexual intercourse, the magistrate said before slapping the man with an effective jail term.
Prosecutor Sarah Bosha presented that the man started sexually assaulting his daughter on January 11 when his wife had gone to the market to sell her wares. The court heard that the complainant used to sleep in the same room with her father and mother together with other siblings.
On the first encounter, the court heard, the rapist sneaked into his daughters blankets early in the morning just after his wife had left for the market.
He then started fondling his daughters breasts after which he undressed her and raped her once. The court heard the man continued to sexually abuse his daughter until February 19 when the matter came to light after the complainant complained of pain on her navel to her grandmother.
After being quizzed, the girl spilled the beans and the matter was reported to the police leading to the rapists arrest.
