Police arrest 6 000 people in Harare and Bulawayo

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported that more than six thousand people have been arrested in Bulawayo and Harare for various crimes including obstructing gfree passage of traffic and touting.
In a statement on Wednesday ZRP said, "The ZRP's operations aimed at bringing sanity in CBDs throughout the country are continuing. In Harare police has accounted for 4463 mushikashika vehicles during the period Jan – 30th June 2019, 4093 touts have been arrested while 3132 unregistered vehicles were impounded.
"In Bulawayo the ZRP has arrested 2112 suspects for obstructing free passage of traffic in the CBD and 98 for exchange control dealings since January 2019. "
Police have urged the public to engage in lawful business activities which do not make them susceptible to arrests.
In an unrelated incident a 16 year old boy died at Dikili Line, Chief Gampu area, Tsholotsho on Monday after he was assaulted by four men all over the body with a switch. The boy who was being accused of stealing a pair of shoes in the neighbourhood was tied to a tree where the suspects assaulted him.
The police indicate that after the assault his legs and hands were tied with a rope and he was detained over night in hut. His condition deteriorated and he died the following morning. All the accused persons fled from the village on realising his death.
