Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders FC have appointed Mandla "Lulu" Mpofu as the new head coach following the departure of Madinda Ndlovu, who has joined Gaborone United in Botswana.
Bosso have headed Ndlovu's advise to elevate Mpofu who was his first assistant while Bekithemba Ndlovu is now the first assistant in the technical set up.
In a Press release yesterday, Bosso said Mpofu is the new technical manager, Bekithemba as assistant coach with Tembo Chuma holding on to his position as goalkeepers' coach, while Brian Keti and Vezigama Dlodlo are the fitness trainer and welfare manager, respectively.
"The appointment shall subsist till the end of the 2019 football season after which a performance review will be done. We wish the coaches and support staff all the very best in driving and managing the change process," part of the statement read.
Ndlovu's last match with Bosso was in an emotional win against traditional rivals Dynamos just before the two-week break.
Madinda had recommended that the club continues with the technical team he worked with for the sake of continuity.
"For me, if the club is going to have continuity, they have to keep the coaches I've been working with and let them go with what we've been doing," he said.
"If they do so, the project we have been working on will be successful. I know it can be done because it's something I have and we have done in the past. In the past, I brought in Rahman Gumbo to be my assistant during the time I was grooming the likes of Thulani 'Biya' Ncube and Bekithemba Ndlovu. He went on to win championships.
"It's the same scenario, back then I recommended Rahman and now, I can recommend Lulu to take over the project. I have been working with him since the start of the project and now that it's taking shape, I know he, with the help of Bekithemba Ndlovu, will see through this project."
The former Chicken Inn coach will start his new role with a tricky encounter against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro on Saturday.
Mpofu was in charge of the then Southern Region Division One side Railstars in 2011 and he also coached Shabanie Mine in 2017 and had a stint with Bantu Rovers.
