Former Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa sabotaged the construction of Tsholotsho stadium because it was fronted by the then legislator Professor Jonathan Moyo.
Professor Moyo made the revelation on Twitter when he was arguing with a President Emmerson Mnangagwa sympathiser who accused Moyo of embezzling funds meant for the Tsholotsho stadium.
Said Prof. Moyo, "Lacoste did not want to benefit Tsholotsho and Matabeleland, so Patrick Chinamasa REFUSED to aporove USD 5 million for the stadium construction despite the fact that cabinet approved and declared the stadium a NATIONAL PROJECT. V11s are there. MaLacoste munemwoyo wakaipa siterek."
In 2018 state media reported that the construction of Tsholotsho Stadium which was suspended in 2015 was set to resume tomorrow.
Themba Moyo, the then Tsholotsho RDC chief executive officer was quoted saying Council had taken over the project.
"If you remember, we were given a quota to slaughter elephants to meet some of the costs for the construction of the stadium with treasury also expected to bail us out but that has not happened. The elephants were shot and those funds are there so construction work resumes this Friday.
"We want the stadium to meet the minimum required standards. The Bulawayo City Council promised to give us the turf and all is in order. New toilets and dressing rooms will be built and a perimeter wall will be constructed so that people pay to watch matches," said Moyo.
He said about 30 elephants have so far been shot under the initial trophy hunting quota of 60 that was allocated and all proceeds from the hunts were there.
