National power utility ZESA Holdings says it is seeking a government exemption to charge mining companies and other exporters in United States dollars to guarantee power supplies.

ZESA wrote to the Ministry of Finance after Professor Mthuli Ncube banned the use of foreign currency as legal tender in Zimbabwe repealing the 2009 law that introduced multi currency system in Zimbabwe.

The move by ZESA received widespread condemnation form Z8imbabweans who feel it is insensitive and exposes the folly of Mthuli Ncube's statutory Instrument.

Professor Jonathan Moyo remarked, "What? "And other exporters". Name them. An exemption for some must be an exemption for all. Great job in exposing the folly of Mthuli Ncube's 142/19!"

Exiled business tycoon Mutumwa Mawere said, "Exceptions are the mother of all evil and distortions."

Posting on Twiitter Public Policy analyst  Joseph Mhlanga said, "What's to stop my local supermarket from seeking a government exemption to charge its customers in US$ to guarantee grocery supplies?"
