Teachers to shutdown schools on Monday

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe have announced that their members are not reporting for duty on Monday because they are incapacitated to go to their work stations.
In a statement on Sunday ARTUZ said, "Teachers going for early holiday beginning tomorrow in protest against underpayment. We welcome the solidarity from ZCTU. We wish our learners a refreshing holiday. Fellow teachers use this holiday to fundraise for your families."
ZCTU said it fully backs efforts by ARTUZ to improve the welfare and condition for teachers in Zimbabwe.
"The so-called $400 cushioning allowance agreed falls far short of the of the monthly needs of the teacher."ZCTU said. "ZCTU urges the government to seriously look into the demands by teachers and the rest of civil service for a review of their salaries to realistic levels to ensure uninterrupted services."
