Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa says his uncle was almost arrested after he attempted to visit him when he was arrested for more than 80 crimes during the government of national unity.
Mliswa who was speaking after the court denied to give bail to Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira said politicians should renovate prisons because they will end there.
Here is the full statement below:
Whilst we don't celebrate one's incarceration, we're jubilant that corruption is being tackled. It's a person's deeds that cause them to end up in such circumstances. I warned these people to refurbish the jails in preparation for their stints
Such scenes bring back memories of when I was brought before the courts on more than 80 counts. At the time I felt deserted by Mnangagwa who was the Minister of Justice when his advice to me was, "take what's coming to you and go to court. If you're innocent you'll be cleared"
Even more so when my uncle Didymus Mutasa said the same and was almost arrested for trying to visit me.
However, looking back, I'm thankful for the tough but necessary lesson. It taught me to face my fears and never be afraid of clearing your name in the face of the allegations. That's why I always urge people who are accused to use the opportunity to clear their name or pay the price
