The fallout between Botswana President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and his predecessor, Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama has gone to a whole new level after the incumbent president dismissed his ex-leader from being the champion of the Vision 2036 Council.
President Masisi dropped the bombshell in a statement released recently, in which he, however, extended his gratitude for the role he played in the afore-mentioned position and wished him all the best.
In response, former President Khama said the letter sent to him had no effect, claiming that he had already resigned from the post on 25 May.
Botswana's Vision 2036 intends to achieve 'prosperity for All,' and guided by seven pillars, among them sustainable economic development, human social development, sustainable environment and governance, peace and security.
The tiff between the two leaders first went public in July last year but reached a tipping point when Lt Gen Khama in May this year quit the governing BDP which has ruled Botswana since independence more than half a century ago, citing deep differences between him and his successor.
In November last year, President Masisi said the reason behind his fallout with his predecessor lies on him not appointing Lt Gen Khama's brother, Tshekedi as Vice President.
Not wanting to go quietly, the stubborn former president shot back.
