A woman from Gweru kidnapped and assaulted her husband's mistress whom she accused of trying to destroy her marriage.
For her wayward behaviour, Abigail Banda (35) of Mkoba 20 suburb was dragged to court by Dorothy Madochi (31) whom she assaulted for dating her husband Brighton Munjanja.
She pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful detention when she appeared before Gweru magistrate Mr Tayengwa Sangster.
In mitigation Banda told the court that Madochi was the root cause of problems she was encountering in her marriage.
"Your worship, l acted out of anger because this woman is trying to destroy my marriage by dating my husband. I have asked her countless times to leave my husband but she never listens," she said.
Sangster sentenced Banda to 20 months in prison.
"For count one which is assaulting the complainant, you're sentenced to two months in prison with an option of paying $150. For the second count which is unlawful detention you are sentenced to 18 months in prison of which six months is suspended on condition of good behaviour. The remaining 12 months is suspended on condition that you perform 420 hours of community service at Takwirira Primary School," said Mr Sangster.
On May 24 around 7 pm, Madochi received a phone call from Banda who purported to be Munjanja's sister.
She told Madochi that the Munjanja family was having a family meeting and they wanted to see her child who was sired by Munjanja.
Around 11pm, Banda went to Madochi's home and she pretended to take her to where the family gathering was being held. Upon arrival at the house, Banda introduced herself as Munjanja's wife and asked Madochi why she was having an affair with her husband.
She assaulted the complainant who was carrying a baby on her back and dragged her to the bedroom where Munjanja was sleeping.
While in the bedroom, she instructed the complainant to demonstrate how she had sex with Munjanja when she got pregnant. After the incident, Banda locked Madochi and Munjanja in the bedroom and left to an unknown destination.
Madochi only managed to get out of the house the following day around 4pm after a passerby unlocked the door for them. The matter was reported to the police leading to Banda's arrest.
