The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Bulawayo Metropolitan Province have arrested five suspected members of a notorious car theft syndicate suspected to have been hijacking and breaking into parked motor vehicles.
The recent ZRP operation code-named "No to Theft from Vehicle" has seen five vehicles recovered and a suspected notorious car theft syndicate finally arrested.
The Acting ZRP spokesperson for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrests.
"We are pleased to announce that ZRP Bulawayo district has managed to make a breakthrough on car theft cases involving a suspected syndicate. In our investigations, we have recovered five motor vehicles. These suspects are Valentine Nyoni, Kwanele Ndlovu, Thabani Ndlovu, Lethukuthula Moyo and Soames Ndlovu who offered ready market for stolen properties. These accused are due to appear at a magistrate court soon. The suspected criminals use various items like advanced remote controls and other sharpened metal devices to pounce on parked vehicles. We therefore urge members of the public to double check that their car doors are locked or leave someone watching over their cars. We also invite anyone with information that might assist in these investigations to continue cooperating with the ZRP," said Inspector Ncube.
The cars that were recovered include a silver Volkswagen Golf 4, white Toyota Corolla, black and silver Subaru, white Toyota Altezza and a silver Toyota Allion.
The accused persons have appeared at Tredgold Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody to Thursday.
