DIESEL is now more expensive than petrol after the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) yesterday hiked the price of the product from ZW$7,22 to $9, 06 a litre.
The price increase is set to spark a new wave of price hikes at a time businesses are relying on generators for power in the face of massive load shedding of up to 18 hours a day.
Petrol is now selling at ZW$9,01 from ZW$7,55, barely four days after the regulator increased the price of the product from around $6,10. Diesel was previously selling at around $ 5,84.
In a statement on its Twitter handle, Zera said the latest adjustments were in line with changes in the international markets and the revised duty regime following the gazetting of Statutory Instrument 161 of 2019.
