A SAKUBVA man who posed as a lady of the night at a local drinking spot in the high-density suburb and later got hooked up with a prospective client for a $5 one night stand is facing theft charges after he allegedly snatched a cell phone and cash from him.

Court officials at the Mutare Magistrates' Courts were left in stitches on Tuesday, as the accused, Odine Mushaba (24) of Number 326, OTS was taken to court dressed in ladies attire.

What surprised many was how the complainant, Norman Muranganise (25) from Zimunya, failed to notice that the baldheaded Mushaba, who apparently has a thick voice, was a man and not a woman.

More drama could have unfolded had the case gone for trial, but it was endorsed to proceed by way of summons after vetting.

According to court records, Muranganise, was at Munos Pub drinking beer with his brother, Richard, on Sunday at around 7pm.

While drinking beer, he saw the accused who was wearing a long dress.

In his drunken stupor, he proposed love to Mushaba thinking he was a lady of the night.

In his warned and cautioned statement, Muranganise said he thought Mushaba was indeed a woman because he was wearing a long dress with black and white spots and he had a big chest reminiscent of big breasts.

"I then proposed love to the accused who then charged me $5 for the night on condition that I had to buy 'her' beer. After drinking beer, we then left the pub and I went with my 'girl' for our one night stand, who by this time was hugging and kissing me on my cheeks.

"On our way just outside the bar, I then realised that he was not a woman.

"I then checked my pockets and discovered that my cell phone and cash amounting to $6, 50 were missing," he said.

However, Mushaba is denying the theft charges.

He said in his statement to the police that he knew nothing of the stolen money and the cell phone.

"I do not admit to the charges levelled against me. The complainant wanted to romance me thinking I was a woman and I refused," he said.
