The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai is reportedly organising a memorial service for the late Zanu founding President Ndabaningi Sithole who died in 2000.
However, the move by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's party has been viewed as an attempt to forge an alliance with Zanu Ndonga, which is predominantly concentrated in Chipinge, Manicaland.
No official confirmation could be obtained from party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora as he did not answer his mobile phone.
Correspondence between the MDC-T, the late Sithole family and Zanu Ndonga shows that all was set for the memorial, in Chipinge on August 4, which will be attended by Tsvangirai.
Senior MDC-T party officials, in a letter to the Sithole family, said the late freedom fighter played a key advisory role to Tsvangirai prior to the formation of the united MDC in 1999 and was instrumental in the formation of the MDC-T.
President Robert Mugabe, Dumiso Dabengwa, Enos Nkala and other politicians will be invited.
