The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Professor Welshman Ncube, says government should ensure that the forth-coming elections are conducted in a manner that does not disrupt business and the economic growth of the country.

Professor Ncube was speaking at the official opening of the 2012 Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Annual Congress in Victoria Falls.

He also said elections must be conducted in a manner that ensures economic gains that have been achieved are not reversed.

He said while there have been calls for government intervention in some sections of the economy, the conflict of interests that already exist within those sectors delay government decisions, and that despite ever increasing demand for financial support from the Treasury, the economy has reached stagnation which makes it difficult to unveil fund to the banking and other sectors.

Mr Ncube announced that independent power producers have been licensed in a move that is expected to ease power shortages in the country.

The three-day congress which is running under the theme, "Turning Recovery into Accelerated Growth-Towards a Hundred Billion Dollar Economy," is focusing on Leveraging ICT for Business Growth, Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Accessing Re-finance for Financially Distressed Companies, among other issues.

Governments is also expected to rake in $1,3 billion from mining, $1,3 billion from tourism and $830 million from tobacco in the next two years, while expenditure is expected to reach $7,3 billion during the same period.
