Obert Mpofu to give mines to the military

Obert Mpofu, the mines and Mining Development minister, said he will give mines to the military, police and prison service officers, if they apply for the licences despite objections from some "imperialists".

Speaking during the Zimbabwe Prison Service's (ZPS) 144th passout parade in Ntabazinduna yesterday, Mpofu said he was in support of President Robert Mugabe's idea that "a good imperialist is a dead one".

He said he had just come from the Kimberly Process inter-cessionary meeting in Washington where "our detractors who have failed to convince the world about their lies when it comes to issues about Zimbabwe" had run out of lies and the world had stopped believing their lies.

"What I want to assure you is that, if you apply for a mine as Zimbabwe Prison Service or Zimbabwe Republic Police or Zimbabwe National Army, I will give you that mine. This is where our resources are being protected and these are the same people that actually made us repossess what was taken away from us.

"We have the United States military running mines in Iraq and elsewhere, in fact, all over the world, but when our sons try to do this, we are accused, it becomes a big story. But I tell you as minister of Mines, apply and I will give you, they will cry, and the more they cry, the more I will give them. So do not be apologetic because if I say I will do something."
