A 16-year-old Form 1 student at Nyangwizhu Secondary School here is facing a murder charge after fatally head-butting a schoolmate.

The juvenile was last week granted bail and released into the custody of his mother by Karoi magistrate Mrs Nyaradzo Ringisayi.

Mrs Ringisayi ordered the boy, who had spent three weeks in remand prison, to be taken to Kadoma Training Institute for counselling before returning to court on August 15 for the continuation of his trial.

According to the case outline, charges against the minor emanate from the afternoon of May 23 this year when he was involved in a fist fight with the now deceased, a Form 3 student at the same school. The Form 3 student made fun of the way the accused was walking and challenged him to a fist fight after school.

Later in the day, a fight ensued, resulting in the 16-year-old head-butting him.  He collapsed after bleeding profusely and was pronounced dead on arrival at Karoi Hospital. A post-mortem revealed that he had sustained a fractured spine.
