'Honour civilians' role in war of liberation'

Vice President Landa John Nkomo says the government should not forget the significant role played by civilians in the liberation struggle as they also contributed by providing material support to freedom fighters.
Speaking at a memorial service for the late Retired Lieutenant Colonel Chilisi Bhuka Ngwenya at Bulilima-Mangwe district heroes acre, Nkomo paid tribute to civilians who bore the burden of liberating the country.
He urged Zimbabweans to protect their heritage from those working to reverse the gains made through the land reform programme.
Zanu-PF national chairman, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the Politburo declared Ngwenya a national hero in honour of his unquestionable contribution to the struggle and development of the country before and after independence.
Ngwenya died on the 25th of December 2011.
