Charlse Ray, - the outgoing US ambassador to Zimbabwe - says Zimbabweans are too preoccupied with politics and artificial cultural divisions, which is "harmful to peaceful co-existence and development", Newsday reported on Monday.
According to the report, Ray said he had discovered that this preoccupation with political discourse came at the expense of development issues.
"I have noticed over the past three years that politics dominates every conversation. It's as if nothing else matters," Ray said during a public discussion forum in Harare.
The outgoing ambassador said he was optimistic the country had a bright future, which "is due in large part to the overwhelmingly energetic, dedicated, and intelligent young people - people who make up the majority of Zimbabwe's population".
